Penguin Bay’s Ice Wine Wins “Best of Show” at Pacific Rim

Hector, NY  ̶  April 28, 2015  ̶  Penguin Bay Winery’s 2013 Vidal Blanc Ice wine has continued its success at international wine competitions by claiming its fifth honor at California’s Pacific Rim with a gold medal and “Best of Show” for dessert wines. Altogether Penguin Bay added ten medals to its accolades from this event with two gold, three silver and five bronze.

Vidal-Blanc-Ice-Wine-honorsThe 2014 Dry Riesling was the other gold medalists at the Pacific Rim, which was the first competition that this vintage had been entered in. The other medalists include the 2013 Pinot Grigio (not yet released), 2013 Gewürztraminer, and 2014 Riesling with silver medals, and the Maroon Four, Lemberger Pinot Noir, 2011 Pinot Noir, 2011 Cabernet Franc and 2012 Cabernet Franc Reserve with bronze medals.

The 2013 Vidal Blanc Ice wine was released just last September and has been receiving rave reviews from customers and top honors at competitions across the country. This ice wine won a gold medals at Jerry Mead’s New World International Wine Competition and at the International Eastern this year, along with a double gold medal at the 2014 Jefferson Cup Invitational and a platinum medal at last month’s Monterey International.

Penguin Bay Winery, owned by the Peterson Family, is located on Route 414 in Hector, NY. The tasting room is open year round with winter hours in effect until April and features a fun variety of dry to sweet white and red wines in addition to a selection of sparkling wines produced by sister wineries, Swedish Hill and Goose Watch.
